Where Dreams Become Realities

October 19, 2017

Do you know what one of the best aspects of being part of the Father's House family is? It's getting to genuinely love, support and care for each other. Not just in terms of physical, emotional and spiritual needs, but also in terms of supporting a person's hopes, dreams and visions.

Here, what you dream doesn't have to stay some fictional idea. As long as you're able to dream and willing to ask the questions, "How can I do that?" or, "Will you help me with this?", you can see dreams come alive. You can watch ideas and hopes be put into action.

One of our Life Recovery Ministry house leaders, Heather, once had the desire to help children going into foster care, so she put into action a project that would do just that. As a family we've gotten to watch and help this idea come alive.

Today, we want to tell you about her project and how you can help support it.

So here's a brief interview with Heather, creator of The Lyric Project:

What is The Lyric Project?

It is a project started to bless children with backpacks on their first night away from home and in an emergency foster care home. We assemble the bags with toys, hygiene products, coloring supplies, blankets and new socks. Items to help the child feel more comfort on the first few nights away from their parents.

Why did you start this project?

I started it because I wanted to pay it forward. A foster family adopted my daughter, Lyric, and blessed her with love and a family. I want to give back in an area I once destroyed and caused pain. At the time, I choose drugs over being a mother and I can never take that back. I can, however, spend the rest of my life living honorably and being the person Jesus intended me to be. I can help these kids in these terrible and scary times.

How is it making a difference?

On the first round we made 5 back packs. On our last drop off we made 60 backpacks, and are planning on expanding more. It gives the child something of their own with comforts inside like hygiene items and a teddy bear to snuggle at night.

What needs does the The Lyric Project have?

We are need of monetary support. It costs a little under $800 to put together 60 bags and we're planning on expanding more.

We also need coloring books, journals, crayons, children's socks, small flashlights, baby blankets, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo and body wash.

How can people help you keep this project going?

Help meet the needs listed above by sending donations to 2656 Fort Wayne Street, marked Lyric Project, and spread the word about it. Also, pray that it would be better known so that we can help more children and more foster agencies.
